Electric Golf Trolley Wheels – History

With over 2 million wheels supplied to the Electric Golf Trolley market, Standel Dawman has aimed to keep the market supplied with top quality, turf protection tyres and is still going strong after more than 30 years in the market.

A history of how each wheel/tyre was developed and reasons for their manufacture are detailed below:

24CAD Wheel

The 24CAD was developed in the late 1970’s as a wide wheeled, turf protecting tyre manufactured from strong but flexible plastic and was one of the only wheels available to the electric golf trolley market for most of the 1980’s.

17CAD Wheel

With a need for a more compact tyre, the 17CAD wheel, at over 25mm narrower allowed for the manufacture of a more compact trolley, but maintained the turf protection features developed in the first wheel.

17 Horizon Wheel

Using the same 17-tyre as the 17CAD wheel, this wheel was manufactured as a lighter option to the 17CAD wheel, but more importantly incorporated the new Standel Dawman easy slide quick release catch, replacing the pram style Quick Release cap developed in the early 1990’s.

Low Profile Sports Wheel

The dawn of the 21st century and a new management team saw the need for a more modern, more aesthetically pleasing look to the successful wheel range. The current Standel Dawman range offers the Low Profile Flight wheel and Low Profile Skyline wheel to all of its customers, although customer specific wheel centres have also been manufactured in this range of low profile sports wheels for the Electric Golf Trolley industry.

Pneumatic Turf Wheel (Air Wheel)

Coinciding with the launch of Standel Dawman’s unique Limited Slip Differential Gearbox, the pneumatic wheel was developed to allow trolley manufacturers who either required extra grip, or who were operating in harsh conditions the option of a tubeless rubber pneumatic wheel.

Pneumatic Super Turf Wheel (Air Wheel)

Developed at the same time as the standard turf wheel, the finer tread of the Superturf tyre has become popular on many trolleys and has been designed specifically with the protection of playing surfaces in mind.
